Tracy Chapman takeover on Pine Royal (Polaroid Radio) on April 30th, 2023
You don't want to miss this show!
Hi all,
Here are the latest news about Tracy Chapman. But before you get too excited: no, Tracy Chapman is not back yet. She has no plans to release a new album or return to the stage. She will do so in due time when she is ready.
In the meantime, while she is away from the public eye, she is still making headlines in one way or another. I wanted to tell you all about them and inaugurate this newsletter with them. Here are the three latest news stories about her:
1. Tracy Chapman takeover on Pine Royal (Polaroid Radio) on April 30th, 2023
Stefan and I, who are behind Tracy Chapman Online, were fortunate enough to be invited by Polaroid Radio to curate music as guests on Royal Pine, a radio station dedicated to folk, soul and roots music that has something to say.
We were asked to create a broadcast entirely dedicated to Tracy Chapman and her influences.
Her most iconic songs are presented in versions you probably don’t know, we included some of our personal favorite songs of hers and also the music that inspired Tracy throughout her life. It’s a sweet blend of gospel, soul and folk music. You’ll be able to listen to those 40 tracks and the insights we recorded for you, sharing our fondest memories of these songs that have imprinted our souls like a branding iron.
Listen to this special Tracy Chapman takeover on Sunday April 30th, 2023 online or via the mobile app you can download (iOS or Android)
Our broadcast will be aired live at 3x times to hit EU and US timezones:
16:00 CEST
16:00 EDT
17:00 PDT
Make sure you're connected on time, there’s no other scheduled replay and it won’t be available as a podcast for now!
2. South Africa: Tracy Chapman was bestowed the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo this week
I know we have many subscribers from South Africa so you’ll be pleased to learn that Tracy Chapman was bestowed the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo in silver.
The Order of the Companions of OR Tambo recognizes eminent foreign nationals for friendship shown to South Africa. It is therefore an Order of peace, cooperation and active expression of solidarity and support.
She was bestowed “for her contribution to the fight for freedom by participating in efforts to free Nelson Mandela and raising awareness of human rights violations globally” said Director general in the Presidency Phindile Baleni.
No one has forgotten her performances at the Nelson Mandela 70th Tribute Concert in 1988 and the Free South Africa concert in 1990 and also her participation at the Human Rights Now! Tour in 1988. She also dedicated the song Freedom Now to Nelson Mandela, a song you can find on her second album “Crossroads”. Watch her perform it live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the Human Rights Now tour on October 15, 1988 👇
The ceremony took place on April 28th and was broadcasted live on social media, but Tracy was not present to receive her medal.
3. Over 46 million worldwide streams for Luke Combs’ Fast Car
Luke Combs released a cover of “Fast Car” as a single few weeks ago and it’s a huge hit! I personally don’t really like it 😜 and I explain you why on this blog post.
That’s it for today. I hope you liked that first newsletter. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. If the algorithms like us, you will see our posts. Otherwise, I'll see you next time in your inbox 📨

My name is Aurélie, I'm French. I created the website about-tracy-chapman.net because I love Tracy’s music and back in 2001, I found that the Internet was missing an exhaustive website with latest news and the largest archive possible. Now i co-manage the Tracy Chapman Online community and edit this newsletter.
